Seeing God's Calling Part 2

Last week we talked about understanding what it means to know that God has a calling on your life and how to take a few steps toward finding your calling.  If you missed that blog, you can check it out here.

When you have spent some time in prayer and learning more about who God created you to be (using some of the tools I mentioned last week or in my book, The Identity Key) then you will want to develop a few things in your life that will help you walk out your calling.

Diane Dotson is a Christian Coach and friend of mine. I have mentioned her and her company One80Life.com many times because I believe in the philosophy that she teaches. She talks about fully living out who God created you to be and says that you need to have a connection with God, a Healthy Connection with Others, and a Connection with your True Self. I like to describe it as a 3 legged stool. If one of the legs is broken then the stool can’t really function as a stool, can it?

Think about these three main areas, which one do you need to work on the most right now?  Is there one area that you know you already have a pretty good handle on?

One of the ways that I am able to fully connect with God is through worship. Music is able to move me in a special way that not much else can. What connects you to God?  Do more of that.

Do you love yourself?  Before you answer that question think for a moment about how you live your life. If you answer yes, that you love yourself, is there evidence in your life that will back that up? How do you take care of yourself?  What do you do for self-care?  By the way, self-care is not selfish. Doing things that fill your bucket make it so that you have something to give.

Imagine a coffee cup that is empty. Can you pour from it? No. The way I like to explain it is to fill your cup with things that bring you joy, peace, and happiness and then give to others from the overflow of that. What is overflowing is on the saucer below the cup, in my mind, that is what we have to give from.

How do you create healthy relationships with others?  Being able to be real about who you are will be so freeing for you and for those around you. By you being you, you are in essence telling them that it is okay to be them. That is a beautiful thing.

When you are able to discover your calling and walk in it I believe you will be amazed at how God uses your calling in every area of your life. You may be able to use your calling in your career. There are so many different areas in that you can deploy or live out your calling. Take a bit of time to think about your daily life.

  • Home
  • Family
  • Work
  • Church
  • Friendships
  • Community Service

As you think of ways to improve how you live out your calling in all areas of your life be sure to recognize where you are doing well. Keeping things balanced is healthy. So if you have an area to improve on be sure to write down an area that you are already doing well.

Your homework this week will be to spend a few minutes connecting with God in a way that will remind you that He does have a calling on your life, connecting with your true self that reminds you that you love yourself and to connect with someone in your life that has inspired you.

This scripture ties in completely with what we have been talking about.

“For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift — not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” Ephesians 2:8-10

As always, if I can help you with anything, please let me know.
